St. Anton
For skiers who want some serious ski terrain by day and a lively atmosphere at night, St. Anton is perfect. Part of the vast Ski Arlberg area, St. Anton offers 305km of runs and some of Europe’s best off-piste terrain, paired with a legendary après-ski scene at spots like the Mooserwirt.
Westendorf
This is where I learnt to ski and still love to go back. It is next to Kitzbühel so you can also ski there as well as the rest of the Ski Welt area, but Westendorf has lots of really enjoyable treelined skiing and is one of the prettiest villages you can go to. Ideal for families.
Lech
There isn’t a resort in Austria that’s quite as exclusive as Lech, with refined village charm, beautifully groomed pistes and high-end hotels, guests have even included the likes of Princess Diana. Lech’s map consists of mainly two colours – blue and red slopes – making it an intermediate skier’s dream.
Snowboarding in Austria
Austria is a popular destination for snowboarders with wide slopes, world-class terrain parks and freeride zones across the mountains.
- Mayrhofen is home to the famous Penken Park, one of Europe’s best terrain parks, with six areas catering to everyone from beginner kickers to massive pro jumps and rails
- Ischgl combines wide intermediate slopes with hidden, off-piste stashes and its own dedicated snowpark and superpipe
- Kitzbühel’s Kitzbüheler Horn offers a half-pipe, fun park, and boardercross course alongside excellent off-piste terrain.
Activities in Austria
Austrian ski resorts have plenty of activities for non-skiers. When you need to relax after a long day on the slopes, the luxury spas here are renowned for their revitalising massages and facials.
- St. Anton is home to the Arlberg Wellcom spa centre which offers an indoor and outdoor pool as well as a sauna area
- In Ellmau, the 300 year-old Achlhof farm runs horse-drawn sleigh rides through the Wilder Kaiser mountains
- Hochgurgl has a 3km, natural toboggan run which descends from the Hochgurglbahn area to the valley station in Pill.

- Ischgl’s après ski is hard to beat. Its Top of the Mountain concerts have hosted international stars like Rita Ora, Robbie Williams and Lenny Kravitz at an altitude of 2,300 metres!
- In Kitzbühel, a British-style pub called the Londoner was established in 1976 and has a famous tradition of Hahnenkamm racers serving behind the bar during race weekends.
