The Best Ski Resorts for Après Ski

Great après ski is essential for the full ski experience, and there’s no better place to regale friends with tales of your skilful slaloming. What’s off the slopes is just as important as the powder, whether it’s table dancing in your ski boots, or somewhere to sit back and relax. These five resorts have some of the best après ski bars on the peaks.

Dance in your ski boots in Val d’Isère

Part of the Espace Killy ski area, the après ski at Val d’Isère is just as impressive as the awe-inducing black runs of Face de Bellevarde.

Many of the best bars, cafés and clubs are close together. La Folie Douce has everything from DJs to dancers (and food) and offers some of the best mountain-side clubbing at the resort.

Cocoricco’s is the logical place to stop after a day on the slopes – it’s at the bottom of La Face. Join the live bands, happy hours and dancing in your ski boots in the centre of the Espace Killy.

Wine and dine in Cortina

Cortina provides some Olympian skiing – quite literally – and the après ski here is elegant and relaxed.

If you’ve ever wanted to dine at over 7,000 feet, Rifugio Averau can oblige. Enjoy a home cooked Italian dinner while taking in views of the magnificent peaks of the Dolomites.

When you need an energised night out, the Belvedere is just the spot. This Ampezzo styled club has even been on the silver screen more than once.

Europop until you drop in St Anton

With tramways and chairlifts that take you well over 9,000 feet, St Anton has some superb slopes. It’s also consistently hailed as one of the best places for après ski.

The kitsch cool of Austrian euro pop has taken a firm hold here, and the nightspots have a great selection of events. Head to the Krazy Kanguruh for outlandish balcony parties with sweeping views, and plenty of specially selected resort party sounds.

You won’t want to miss an evening in Mooserwirt either. Two slogans dominate this bar’s philosophy: ‘The mother of all ski bars’ and ‘damn good but damn expensive’. It lives up to both.

Dance on the tables until late in Whistler

Whistler Blackcomb is the top ski resort in North America and for good reason. In addition, to plentiful on and off-hill activities, it’s got varied terrain and some superb on-piste après ski.

If you’re staying at Whistler, Longhorns is the place to be. You can ski or board right up to the doorstep and get stuck straight into the fun, which can range from bands to DJs.

Merlin’s is a must too. Right at the base of Blackcomb, its cosy and comfortable vibe makes you feel right at home – all the easier to let your hair down.

Party like Prince William in Verbier

This gorgeous Swiss resort sees its fair share of the rich and famous. There’s excellent off-piste skiing at Mont Gelé, and Verbier has some glamorous venues to enjoy after a day slicing through the powder.

If it’s good enough for Prince William, you know you’re in for a good time at Pub Mont Fort. The covered terrace with plush seats keeps you warm well into the early hours when drinks are flowing.

If you’re feeling particularly flush, then head to The Farm Club – the coolest and most prestigious nightspot in town.
